Mountain Modern Design LOVE

Today we want to share our obsession with the interior design style: mountain modern. A mountain modern home design is always composed of two basic elements: stone and wood. The architecture is typically represented by wood and stone plaster and surrounded by trees and beautiful landscapes near the mountains. Wood ceilings, stone bathrooms, bunk beds or wooden kitchens are classic elements for a mountain modern home.

We have created a collection of our favorite mountain modern inspiration interiors via our Pinterest Board .  But for now, we want to share with you directly the ones we truly admire.

Designer Favorite’s | Stair Runners

As interior designers we look at every detail and aspect of the space in which we are working. The floors and, of course, stairs are no exception. In fact, they are an amazing way to incorporate exceptional design details. Stair runners are a great solution to absorb sound when you are surrounded by sheetrock walls and hardwood or tile floors. Add a couple of high energy children, and that is a recipe for a loud environment! In addition to softening sounds, runners are a great way to add color and pattern to a room that may often not have a need for fabrics. We love to use the stair runner as a big statement piece and as an introduction to the tone and personality of the entire home.

When evaluating the stair runner, it is important to determine how the design and color will complement your walls, fixtures, and other furnishings. We always encourage our clients to explore the possibilities of custom rug design; options are endless! When it comes to commissioning a personalized rug, some of our go to partners include Hokanson ( ), Madison Lilly Rugs ( and Kyle Bunting (

Below we’ve collected a few of the and Studio U designer’s favorite stair runners!

Helpful Tips for Designing your Child’s Playroom from Jillian Flynn

Jillian BW

[/ezcol_1quarter] [ezcol_3quarter_end]Hi There!
Because this was a recent feature on Dering Hall (“Kid-Friendly Rooms that Inspire the Imagination”), we were inspired to share some of our own guidelines to keep in mind when designing a child’s playroom.
While it may not be, at times, the tidiest room in your home, having a playroom is a fantastic way to give your child their own, personal, space in your home, while at the same time keeping toy creep at bay. What is toy creep? It’s the phenomenon that most families are familiar with where toys are found all over the house.[/ezcol_3quarter_end]
A playroom provides the perfect place to keep your child’s belongings in a contained area. A room for your children can also serve as a fun retreat from their bedroom where they can still have fun with their toys and allow their imagination to flourish. The ideal playroom should be both a fun yet safe place where your kids can escape to enjoy themselves without the direct supervision of their parents. Here are some basic guidelines for designing the perfect playroom.

We celebrated the opening of Studio U last night and it was a fantastic event. We are so happy with the outcome and so grateful for all the help we had from our kind sponsors!
