Statement Lighting

This day started off just a bit gray, so I thought we should bring a little light to this situation!

Lighting plays so many roles in our homes and we feel certain fixtures deserve just a little extra attention. In addition to providing necessary light for homeowners, chandeliers and sconces often moonlight as beautiful pieces of art.

Light elements can produce big design statements in a room. If something feels incomplete, there is a chance your lighting situation could be the culprit. Try stepping out of your comfort zone! Replace the chandelier that may, or may not have, come with the keys to your home with something unique and tailored for your style.

Below we’ve gathered a few of our favorite interiors featuring statement lighting. Enjoy!

The Beauty of Drapery

Happy end of the week and beginning of the weekend, everyone! Ahhh the weekend – the time to draw your drapery and sleep in! Speaking of drapery… a recent look at Elle Decor got me dreaming about it. Window treatments, and especially drapes, are a lovely necessity of decor bringing color, warmth, privacy, sound control, and life into our homes.

There are more than a few ways to use draperies aside from covering your windows, and I thought I’d share four of them with you from our recent projects.

From our Bellaire project, here’s an application that I love—setting off and showcasing a special bed. This large scale bed was custom made for our client and there’s just something about the generous gathers of fabric that is so cozy and luxurious!

The Aspen Grand Opening Event!

[ezcol_1half]Happy Friday Everyone,

As we mentioned before in ‘, we opened a brand new office in Aspen earlier this year. After officially moving into our corner office, adjacent to , we invited our clients, colleagues, and friends to join us in celebrating the beginning of a new chapter.

The evening was sponsored by our friends at . We needed to add something special for the walls of our party venue, so we reached out to our friends at Quintez Gallery to adorn our office with fabulous art. The featured works from Kris Cox, Andrew Roberts-Gray, Robert Brinker, and Allison Stewart were absolutely beautiful! The evening also benefitted a wonderful local organization:

Color Your 2015

Hello, everyone! We’re well into the 2015 now, and Spring will be here before we know it! This time of the year always makes me feel like bringing new colors into my life!

One of the things people almost always mention when they talk about our work is color, and I’m so very proud of that.  I love bringing unexpected color into a space! There’s no better way to enhance your interior atmosphere, lift your mood, and add sheer exuberance to our surroundings.

Our design team always chooses their color palettes based on client requests and wishes. Turns out that people have VERY strong opinions about color. Certain colors can be very polarizing: homeowners either love certain hues or absolutely can’t stand to look at them. It is very telling and a lot of fun to see what different people gravitate towards: cool tones, warm tones, pastels, jewel tones, reds, greens, blues. We are almost always surprised and excited by what our clients select!

At Dbh-biz.info we tend to keep track of what’s going on in the worlds of fashion, interior design, graphic design and more. We , but it’s not the only color being called “color of the year” by designers and companies globally…so let’s take a look at three of our favorites!

The Perfect Custom Sofa

Hello Again Everyone!

The design teams at Dbh-biz.info and Studio U have recently been sharing their go-to sources for inspiration gathering. Pinterest, Houzz, and many gorgeous shelter mags were thrown into the mix, both online and good-old hard copy. I truly enjoy perusing myriad glossy design publications from big names like Architectural Digest to the industry specific Wallpaper Magazine. Of course, Elle Decor nearly always finds its way to the top of my reading list. Recently “flipping” through their website, we ran across an article on 15 one-of-a-kind couches that inspired us to share two sofa “selfies” (they haven’t even been formally photographed yet!) from recent projects. Jillian and Collyn formed the Studio U design team that worked closely with our clients to come up with these gorgeous pieces, with photos during installation hot off of Collyn’s phone!

Pantone Color of the Year – Marsala!

Hello Everyone,

If you haven’t heard, the color authorities have spoken. Marsala, a gorgeous terracotta shade, has been named the official Pantone Color of the year.

“This earthy red has wine and a very warm brown underneath, which gives the feeling of groundedness, strength, and confidence,” says Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute. “It has a richness that lends sophistication. When you wear it’s it is a self-fulfilling prophecy—you’ll find you get positive reactions form others and it builds up your confidence.” Eisman further explains that we’ve seen glimpses of marsala in the late ‘60s into the ‘70s and a touch in the ‘80s, but it’s also a very modern hue that lives well today.

Before & After | Tilbury Powder Bath

Do you love Before-and-After photos as much as we do??? Thought so!

Here is one of our favorite before-and-after projects. Our client wished for a pretty powder with an Eastern influence. This gorgeous little room was taken from traditional to sleek in a matter of a few weeks. You can always get away with big, bold statements in the tiny powder room, and these pics are a great example of a fantastic transformation from muted and traditional to chic and special!
