[one_fourth][/one_fourth][three_fourth_last]Hello Everyone!

We recently showed off a few rooms from one of our favorite projects here in the Houston neighborhood of River Oaks. This home was built in the ‘20s by famed Houston architect John Staub. Today’s post is set in the master bedroom, a comfortable, serene retreat, with glam to spare.

As we’ve mentioned before on the blog, we didn’t want to change the bones of this fantastic home (see our post: ). [/three_fourth_last]

Our challenge was to modernize it for the 21st century without marring the house’s architectural beauty. Our clients requested a serene, elegantly-appointed master bedroom. It was to be family-friendly, and updated with latest available technology.

THE CHALLENGES

  •  No overhead lighting
  • Beautiful plaster walls and ceilings that needed to be left intact
  • Updating the technology to that of a “smart home”

To give you an idea of the space, here is a look at the floorplan.

THE SOLUTION

Our team decided that “classically current”would be our motto! A color scheme of creamy whites, metallics, and mink-toned accents was chosen. Natural lighting gives this room the luminous look we wanted while gleaming silver and reflective surfaces provide interest.

The lighting plan we decided on called for adding a sculptural chandelier that would suit the glamour of this ‘20s beauty as well as cohesive floor lamps and table lamps for the night stands. To fill the room and give the couple full functionality of the space required a substantial amount of furniture. We sourced a fabulous armoire large enough to hold a generously sized television that could be easily seen from the bed and just as easily hidden when not in use. We chose to reupholster a settee that the client already owned and incorporate a comfy lounge chair for additional seating.

A cozy Saturday morning with the kids piled up on the bed, or a dreamy afternoon break with a cup of tea and a good book just seem irresistible in this room, don’t you think?

We are convinced that the Hudson Furniture chandelier () was the perfect choice for this room.

The master suite has been outfitted with sound, climate and lighting controls, as well as automated drapery and shades, with hidden speakers and all the other technology necessary for today’s “smart” home. These products were carefully installed by our amazing technology partner, Via The Digital Concierge, who took great care to spare the beautiful plasterwork.  is our go to, preferred partner for exceptional home automation, technology, and entertainment solutions. We highly recommend their services for all your in-home technology needs!

This remains one of our favorite rooms, for one of our favorite clients! We are so proud that it won 1st place in the ASID 2012 Awards for “Residential Singular Space”.
