Many people may avoid pale and pastel hues, fearful of creating an “Easter” palette for their home. Pastels are also plagued by the widely accepted notion that they are primarily feminine colors. Things have changed! Pastels and pales are returning as a fresh, bright, and airy options in residential interior design and masculine hues like pale grays and blues are definitely members of the pastel color family. Welcome aboard gentlemen!

Designers are turning these stereotypes on their heads and crafting unique interiors rich in pastels. Color expert Benjamin Moore recently announced – A pale, powdery sky blue – as their color of the Year for 2014! The brand explains that a shift towards the subdued hues (in the form of softened and filtered pastels) is a way to lift the spirit of a space.  Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing for Sherwin Williams said, “Pastels don’t have to be baby blue or pale pink. They can have depth and substance to them, which makes them more vibrant and usable”. If Sherwin Williams said it then you know it’s true!
