Most of us spend quite a bit of time in our utility room, especially if you have kids that go through clothes like nobody’s business (like mine)! They can certainly keep you busy with loads of laundry and tackling random projects all day long. Although we’re constantly running in and out of this room on a daily basis, it’s a space that can sometimes feel forgotten within the home. Why not make the utility room a functional and pleasant place to be?
Read on to see my suggestions for how to make the most of your laundry room.
Paint for space
Just because the utility room is a practical space it shouldn’t be dull! I suggest sprucing up this spot with bright an unexpected and bright paint color on the ceiling to amp up the vibe. I think you can create energy (and dare we say, inspiration?) here by adding punchy tones like a modern orange, zen blue or subtle gray. If you have lots of natural light, it’s a good idea to choose a color that really reflects it in order to make the room feel even bigger. If light is more of an issue in your utility room, consider opting for an off-white hue that can create space in small or dimly-lit area.
Organization is key
The layout of a room can sometimes be an issue when dealing with a utility room. Whether your washer and dryer is set back in a nook, side-by-side in the room, or efficiently stacked, it’s best to keep things in and around them clean and to-the-point. I recommend using stylish, clear containers to organize your washing detergents and fabric softeners and, if possible, experimenting with countertops of different heights so that you use the space above your appliances for folding, sorting, and organizing. Finding some unique baskets or bins with labels to ensure that everything has its place is also a great way to create storage without compromising style.
Get the right light
At Dbh-biz.info, we are huge believers in the power of good lighting. It can totally transform a room and the laundry space is no different. I suggest adding a cute and functional fixture so spending time in your utility room feels less like a chore.
Turn on the charm
Adding character to your utility room is key to making the space feel more inviting. I suggest choosing a piece of statement art to create a true focal point in the room, or even adding a cozy bench for some extra seating and storage. This will take the space from drab to fab fast, and also make it feel much more like a cohesive part of the rest of your home, rather than an extra spot lacking personality. Add some cute hooks and a colorful laundry sorting system just for fun!
