Before and After: Tackling Trends

There are those projects that come along every once and a while that remind us how lucky we are to work in such an innovative and creative industry. This mid-century modern renovation was certainly one of them. The homeowners had invested in creating a home reflective of their own personal style (which we loved!) and was equal parts eclectic and modern.

Our challenge was to update their space and, instead of focusing on the hottest trends, create designs that the family would love for a long time without losing the touches of fun of which the client is so fond. Because the Dbh-biz.info team is dedicated to creating looks that blend inspirations from the past with current design trends, we knew this property was perfect for us!

Read on to see how we totally transformed this home by updating the already charming nature of the space to create a WOW factor that will stand the test of time.

Stay Classic, Be Current: 2017 Hues

Finding the perfect color combinations for my designs is one of my favorite aspects of the design process! I strongly believe design should be timeless and not solely based on the trends of the moment. In fact, this belief is the basis of my “classically current” design philosophy. However, the “current” part of this idea leaves room for modern updates that will stand the test of time.

Each year around this time, the design community begins discussing the new colors of the year, which I find truly inspiring!

Magazine recently shared its favorite 2017 hues and helped spark some new year color inspiration of my own! My personal favorites are shades of blue (navy, cerulean), earthy greens, rich amethyst purple, matching pastel shades (rose, taupe, gray) and a bold sophisticated accent color (yellow).

Here are my tips on how to incorporate these fab colors into interiors while achieving a look for the ages!

How To: A Neutral Hue

Let’s play a lightning round of Design Myth Busters, shall we?

Myth: Neutral colors create a drab interior design.

FALSE: While I LOVE a healthy dose of color in my designs, neutral tones can create inviting, cozy and serene interiors and have the ability to create retreat-like spaces in your home.

One of my favorite things about neutrals, aside from the soft and warm environments they create, is the way they allow other design elements – like texture and pattern – to take center stage. Read on to discover the benefits of going “au-neutural” in your color palette!

Costa Rica: My Seaside Escape

If you have spent any time on my blog, you already know I have a tendency to draw interior design inspiration from almost every place I visit. From the Sagrada Familia in and the eclectic streets of to the southern charm of and Central Park in , even on vacation, I just can’t help but wear my design hat.

While this figurative hat is a permanent staple in my wardrobe, I do recognize the importance of “unplugging” from the hustle and bustle of a busy work life, and recently took full advantage of the opportunity to do just that on a trip to Costa Rica to celebrate my husband Michael’s 40th birthday!

For the big birthday bash, we, along with our closest friends, headed to the coastal paradise for a long weekend of relaxation, celebration and, of course, a little interior design inspiration.

Here’s a peek into my trip and the fabulous colors and textures I spotted along the way.
