Two things I love are fabulous statement chairs and romantic designs. One of the pieces that brings these two loves together in a unique way is the hanging chair. It’s a versatile chair you can use in your kids’ bedrooms or outside on your veranda. Just not the same piece, please!
As an interior designer, you learn about “design rules” early on. But after a few years, your style evolves. Very much like the old adage to “not wear white after Labor Day,” you realize that some rules were meant to be broken!
I always say there is no real “rule book” when it comes to interior design. Really, it’s more like a set of standard industry best practices to get you started. Then you create your own rules. After all, the point is to trust your own design instincts!
Whether it’s our team showing off their favorite interior design finds each month on our Team Obsessions round-up or recaps of our fabulous design discoveries from the various markets we attend each year, we love to share the newest products and ideas in interior design with you!
While I wasn’t able to visit the showroom during my whirlwind trip to the spring High Point Market, the fabulous team at John-Richard knows we MUST stay up on the newest and best. They just sent us their most recent introductions, and they. are. awesome!

Just because a space is small doesn’t mean it should be deprived of personality. In fact, injecting loads of personality into a small space can be really fun and add instant charm. Whether it’s a built-in space under the window or a cozy reading nook, there are plenty of ways to optimize the space by combining style and function including using pillows, cushions, lighting, stylish accents and storage to create one fab cohesive design.
I personally love capitalizing on these tiny spaces by transforming them into a private hideaway for the kiddos, a tranquil oasis fit for relaxation or a quiet area to dive into a good book.

If you’re one of those people who believe wallcoverings are old news or outdated, then allow me to change your mind. Much like a lovely piece of art, wallcoverings add interest and richness to any space! When considering the use of wallcoverings, it is important to choose a style proportionate to the intended space. For instance, small patterns can get lost in a room with high ceilings, vertical stripes tend to make a space look smaller, and horizontal stripes will make a room appear larger.
When it comes to designing with wallcoverings, the possibilities are endless and choosing the right pattern can really make or break a space, so let’s talk about some of my favorite ways to tackle this design tactic!
The Groundhog may have prognosticated that we are due for a long winter this year but, let’s be honest, winter days in Houston are few and far between. It’s around this time of year, I can’t help but dream of spring while trying to enjoy the cooler, breezy days before the summer heat begins to grace us with its presence.
As we wait for the summer heat, now is the perfect time to give your backyard a little love and in my case – bring it back to life before you have the summer sun beaming down on you.
For some great ways to prepare for a glorious spring and a sweltering summer out of doors and in style, continue reading to see some of my favorite patio and backyard designs.
Interior design is a transformative process. Through an artful combination of strategic planning and creative thought, designers thrive on creating a completely new space with each project – seeing a project through from beginning to end is, without a doubt, the best part about our job!
Of course, a full redesign is no small feat. There’s consulting and space planning, furniture selection and custom design work, textile choices and installations, and all of the small details in between that combine to create the finished product shown in all of the glossy photos proudly displayed here on the blog.
But what happens before the final photos? Let’s take a look at how our fabulous team took a blank slate and turned it into our client’s vision of a Moroccan oasis throughout the home.
A little fun fact about me: I’ve always been fascinated with space planning, layouts and the structure of homes. I even spent several years studying architecture, which culminated in a Master of Architecture degree. I love it that much!
With this background, I often approach a new interior design project with an architectural eye: seeking opportunities for big changes. However, our clients’ homes can often be vastly improved with just small cosmetic updates. While each project is unique, one area that can have the most impact on your home and the way you live is your staircase.
Read on to see how to take stair design to the next level without a total renovation.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is finally here! I‘m heading off to High Point today to begin all of the Market festivities and I am beyond excited to begin touring all of the showrooms tomorrow! It has been such a crazy couple weeks preparing for it, but the fast (and sometimes frantic) pace is part of what I love about interior design.
As promised, I have one more sneak peek to show you before I hit the road for North Carolina. Known for its fabulous transitional and contemporary pieces, has been a go-to of mine for years and, as usual, they are prepared to make a big impression at Market this weekend.
Without further ado, enjoy my final High Point Market sneak peek courtesy of the fab team at Worlds Away!
