Inspiration comes from many different places. From design blogs to the runway and trips to market, I find inspiration all around me. But hitting the reset button every so often is a necessity for me. I find nothing helps me refocus and gets my creative juices flowing more than putting myself in a different environment. What destination is at the top of my list to renew my interior design inspiration? Aspen, Colorado.

Aspen, Colorado is one of the places I love going to when I need a change of scenery. From music festivals to outdoor activities and the premiere , Aspen has so much to offer. What I love most about visiting Colorado is the perspective shift it offers. The peacefulness of the lush mountain scenery provides a welcome change from the flat landscape and hustle of life in the city.

Nature plays a huge role in our designs. The lush landscape may inspire the color palette we use in the home. Or a river stone fireplace might create the perfect focal point. And natural elements like wood and stone are a fabulous way to bring in organic shapes and unique textures into a design. They add warmth, depth, and visual interest.

But the structure of the home and where it’s located on the property is also important to understand. The surroundings, natural light, and physical space the home occupies influences our design. These elements are the foundation on which we create interiors that maximize the home’s functionality and beauty.

Interior Designer Colorado

Though we no longer call Aspen our “office home”, we are still inspired by the beautiful surroundings. I’m so excited to announce that the Dbh-biz.info team will be heading back to Aspen this summer! Our official countdown to Colorado and wrapping up a fun new project has definitely got me dreaming about beautiful mountain homes. Today I want to share a few of my favorite mountain homes with you from these talented Colorado interior designers.

Woody Creek Mountain Home in Aspen, Colorado

Contrast is one of the essential elements of Classically Current designs. The tension of color, texture, and pairing pieces that aren’t supposed to go together is what makes an interior design interesting. In this Woody Creek Cabin, our goal was to bring the organic, beauty of nature together with clean, modern lines. The color palette of rich browns and light creams was inspired by the gorgeous landscape surrounding the home. It brings the beauty of the outdoors inside and provides the perfect backdrop for the home’s views.

Natural wood elements like the floor lamp and nesting side tables add warmth and visual texture. The metal coffee table and leather accent chair give the room a modern, industrial vibe. And real plants add a pop of fresh green to create a relaxing and calming space. Bold Aztec print pillows bring in a dose of color and a cozy throw beckons guests to sit down and stay a while.

Local Aspen interior design firm, Charles Cunniffe Architects, designed this stunning home. is situated on the edge of a hay field with a small stream running through the property. The home’s placement was chosen to take full advantage of the gorgeous views of Elk Mountains, Aspen, and Snowmass. What I love about this home’s design is that it highlights the beauty of its surroundings and doesn’t compete with them.

The home’s neutral color palette accented with pops of blue and gray give the space a soothing, relaxing feel. Warm wood finishes add texture, visual interest, and help makes the space feel like an extension of the outdoors. And touches of copper give the home depth and dimension.

Floor-to-ceiling windows line the back of the house which lets natural light flood the home. I love that the entire design of the home centers on the incredible views. It’s designed so you can enjoy them in every room of the house.

Next up is this from Rowland + Broughton, an architectural and interior design firm in Colorado. (They were one of our neighbors in Aspen and we love their architectural style!) This retreat is the perfect departure from a traditional mountain home. The open concept floor plan is great for entertaining. And intimate seating areas throughout the common spaces make it easy to relax with friends and family.

I love how the fresh, clean color palette of creams and light
grays
contrasts with the dark wood accents. The exposed beams on the ceiling make the space feel cozy even with the expansive ceilings. Large windows in the living room area allow in plenty of natural light and modern light fixtures add a chic touch. Rich jewel-toned pillows and a touch of fur in the bedrooms create a warm, cozy, and luxurious space. This is the perfect family-friendly retreat home.

JH Modern in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

JH Modern is the perfect example of the traditional, rustic aesthetic with a contemporary twist. This gorgeous live-edge wood headboard adds warmth, texture, and dimension to this all-white room. The Edison style table lamp brings a modern, industrial vibe and picks up the beautiful colors in the headboard.

My favorite part about this space is the accent chair. The classic shape and light wood frame make it stand out from the headboard without competing for attention. Choosing to upholster it in a Mongolian sheepskin adds a layer of softness and gives the space a luxe feel.

When it comes to this mountain get-away home, it’s all about the details. The different wood tones pay homage to the natural landscape and create a beautiful visual texture. The wood elements bring the outdoors inside and the metal accents add a contemporary, industrial vibe. The metallic buffalo head grouping gives the space a whimsical touch and livens up the wood. The delicate white globe light fixtures provide a great contrast to the horizontal lines of the wood planks. This space is a fun mix of modern design and clean lines with rustic materials.

Modern Mountain Home near Park City, Utah

This kitchen created by interior designer Studio McGee is the perfect blend of traditional and contemporary. The large, open layout kitchen is great for entertaining and making big meals as a group. And the open shelves keep everything within reach
so the whole family can help.

What I admire about Studio McGee is the clean, bright interiors they create that blend vintage pieces with contemporary ones. An oriental rug warms up the sleek vent hood in this kitchen and ties in the wood tones of the shelves and flooring. Gold cabinet hardware adds a luxe touch and provides a chic contrast to the silver appliances.

Large windows along the back of the house keep this living room airy and bright. Furnishings with clean, simple lines allow guests to sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful view uninterrupted. The pop of blue and touch of pattern in the decorative pillows packs a playful punch.

And the wood log display and stone accent wall bring in visual texture and dimension. The elk mount above the low-slung fireplace adds a rustic touch to this contemporary retreat home. It’s a laid back, sophisticated space that’s easy to relax in.
